Questions garage door company owners ask about marketing
Straight answers for garage door companies on reviews, Google Ads, the $29 service-call competitors, websites, missed calls, the benchmark data and the free 14-day trial.
How many Google reviews does a garage door company need to win the map pack?
More than the three companies currently showing. Across 14,382 garage door listings the median is 27 reviews and 48.1% have fewer than 25. In a real metro the map pack for "garage door repair" is usually held by companies past 100, and only 23.9% are there. A two-truck shop running eight to ten jobs a day can get one review per truck per day if the tech asks at the door. The reviews guide has the script.
How do I compete with the $29 service-call companies?
You do not match the price. Those outfits make their money on the spring they quote at $900 once the truck is in the driveway. Put your real spring price range on your website and in your ad, say "price quoted before we start, no trip fee if you book the repair," and let the homeowner compare. Reviews that mention a fair price do the rest. See pricing and quoting.
What does a garage door lead cost on Google Ads?
In most US metros a tracked repair call from Search runs $45 to $140, and a Local Services Ads lead runs $30 to $90. New door installation leads cost more per lead, $80 to $250, but carry a $1,500 to $5,000 ticket. Accounts that lose money are almost always running broad match on "garage door" and paying for people who want to buy a door at a big-box store or reprogram a remote. The Google Ads guide has the negative keyword list.
Do Facebook and Instagram ads work for garage door repair?
Not for the broken spring at 6 a.m. That person is on Google. Meta works for the planned purchase: a new door, an opener upgrade with a camera, a tune-up special before winter. Before-and-after photos of a new door on a real house in a real neighborhood are the best creative this trade has, and leads run $15 to $50. Follow-up has to be fast because the person was scrolling, not searching. Details in the Meta ads guide.
Should my Google profile say I am open 24 hours?
Only if someone answers at 2 a.m. 22.7% of garage door listings claim 24-hour hours and far fewer pick up. 35.9% list no hours at all, which Google treats as unknown. List the hours a human answers, add "emergency calls answered until 9 p.m." in the description if that is true, and use missed-call text-back for the rest.
Does a garage door company really need a website?
18.5% of garage door companies have no website and they sit at a median of 8 reviews. Companies with a site have a median of 36. The site is not where the lead starts, it is where the lead checks you after seeing your ad or your profile. It needs tap-to-call, a page per service with a price range, photos of real doors, and it needs to load in under three seconds on a phone. The website essentials guide lists the seven things it must do.
What should I do when a call comes in while I am on a ladder?
Let the text go out automatically. A missed call that gets a text within a minute ("This is Dan at [company], on a job right now, is your door stuck open or closed?") holds the lead. A missed call that gets nothing goes to the next company on the list. Put your numbers in the calculator to see what that costs a month. Most shops are surprised.
How do I show up when someone asks ChatGPT for a garage door company?
AI answers pull from the same places Google does: your Google Business Profile, your website's service pages, and review text. Companies that show up have a profile with every service listed, a site with a plain page for each service that states what it costs and where you work, and reviews that mention the job by name. The AI search guide walks through it.
Is winter really the busy season for garage door repair?
For repair, yes. Cold metal, stiff lubricant and more open-close cycles break springs and cables, and January is the top repair month in most northern markets. Installs run the other way: spring and early summer, when people are working on curb appeal or getting a house ready to sell. The seasonality guide has a month-by-month plan.
Where does the benchmark data come from?
From public Google Business Profile listings. We search Google Maps for garage door companies in every US state, collect the public fields (reviews, rating, website, hours, category, city), deduplicate by place, and compute the statistics. 14,382 listings across 51 states in the current pull, refreshed monthly. No logins, no personal data. The about page has the full method.
Why is the average review count so much higher than the median?
The mean is 137.2 and the median is 27 because a small number of multi-branch companies have thousands of reviews and pull the average up. 6.2% of listings have passed 500. The median tells you where a typical shop sits. The 90th percentile, 313, tells you where the map-pack winners sit. Compare yourself to those two, never the mean.
What is included in the free 14-day trial?
Any one of the twelve services on this site, fully set up and run for 14 days in your own accounts. For Google Ads that means campaigns built, call tracking on, negatives loaded and the first two weeks managed. For reviews it means the request system live and the first requests sent. You get the setup call, the work, and a plain report at the end. Ad spend paid to Google or Meta is yours and goes on your own card.
What happens after 14 days?
You get a short report: calls, leads, recordings, cost per booked job. Then you choose. Keep the service at the monthly price quoted before the trial started, switch to a different service, or stop. Nothing renews on its own and there is no cancellation step. If you stop, everything that was built stays in your accounts.
Is a credit card required to start?
No. There is nothing to put on file. You text or call (385) 534-3558, we do a 20-minute setup call, and the service goes live. The only money that changes hands during the trial is ad spend you choose to pay Google or Meta directly.
